The activity of light industry enterprises of the republic improved in 2018 compared to 2017, the share of light industry, taking into account cotton gins, together with the products of the republic's industry is 11.3%.
The enterprises of the industry, taking into account cotton gins, produced products worth over 2 billion rubles during this period. 700 million somoni, which is 153 million somoni more than in 2017 and the growth rate is 106%.
In 2018, 20739.6 tons of cotton thread were produced by industry enterprises (compared to 2017 by 3539.2 tons more), 7512.3 thousand m2 of cotton fabric (compared to 2017 by 162.1 thousand m2 more), over 5.7 million pairs of various types of socks (compared to 2017 by 1.9 million pairs more), in the amount of 267.2 million somoni of sewing products (compared to 2017 by 36.1 million somoni more), 1128481 units of school uniforms (compared to 2017 by 47313 units more), 3056 thousand m2 of carpet products (compared to 2017. by 346.5 thousand m2 more), 798.2 thousand pairs of various types of shoes (compared to 2017 by 29.8 thousand pairs more), in the amount of over 42.2 million somoni of furniture products (compared to 2017, the growth rate is 111.1%), 75.3 thousand m2 of satin fabric (compared to 2017 by 18.8 thousand m2 more), 19.4 thousand m2 of silk fabric (compared to 2017 by 6.8 thousand m2 more), 117334.8 units of bags (compared to 2017 by 63843.6 thousand more).
In order to expand production, create new workshops and for the production of raw materials, equipment worth 215 million somoni was purchased abroad by industry enterprises in 2018.
The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has created tax and customs privileges for the cotton fiber processing industry.
As a result of the measures taken for the production of cotton thread in recent years, there has been an increase in production. If in 2014 production amounted to 8,7 thousand tons, then this indicator in 2018 increased by 20,7 thousand tons, which is 2.4 times more than in 2014.
Foreign investors pay special attention to the cotton fiber industry in our country.
The beginning of the activity of the Textile Complex of Juntai Dangara Sin Silu Textile LLC, which operates jointly with Chinese partners, is a steady step in the development of the industry. On November 5, 2018, the Leader of the nation, dear Emomali Rahmon, during a working visit to the Dangara district, took part in the commissioning ceremony of the second stage of the spinning production of this enterprise.
 In general, the capacity of the annual cycle of spinning production amounted to almost 25 thousand tons of cotton fiber and 530 workers received a permanent job.
Providing for the necessary measures for the development of the industry and increasing the amount of leather processing, in 2018, Matin Charm LLC in Dushanbe and Hassan Sanoat LLC in Vakhdat, where jobs for 60 people were created, started operating.
Currently, there is a Program for the development of the silkworm industry and cocoon processing in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2012-2020. During the 2018 season, cocoon production amounted to 737.7 tons: in the Khatlon region – 262 tons, in the Sughd region – 366.8 tons and in the districts of republican subordination -108.9 tons.
In order to improve the production of cocoon processing and bring it to the final product in 2018, Duk LLC began to produce canvas, which allowed creating new jobs for 40 workers.
It should be noted that on June 26, 2018, the Founder of Peace and Unity, the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, dear Emomali Rahmon, opened a joint venture of Tajikistan and Turkey – Archa Furniture in the Sogd open economic zone. Production at this enterprise consists of two sectors, in the first sector furniture with the use of various iron profiles and in the second sector with the use of tile – furniture is made for institutions: administrative, medical, preschool, school, higher educational institutions and household accessories.
 During the reporting period, the production of new products that are import-substituting, including sanitary and hygienic products made of cotton fiber, yarns and polypropylene bags are manufactured at the enterprise of the industry.
At the initiative of the Leader of the Nation, respected Emomali Rahmon, in order to solve the social problems of the population to improve infrastructure, create jobs, develop tourism infrastructure and develop folk crafts, 2019-2021 was declared the Year of Rural Development, Tourism and Folk Crafts.
 In order to strengthen the process of developing folk crafts, the Ministry closely cooperates with the State Executive Authorities of regions, cities and districts.
 According to the data provided, in recent years, the process of teaching folk crafts has been intensively developing in the districts and cities of the republic and girls and women housewives have been purposefully attracted to vocational training.
